Final Preparations and Painful Goodbyes

11/5/04 Murphy's Law - what can go wrong will… In process of getting ready to leave, Todd tore a muscle in his calf muscle that he initially thought was a torn Achilles tendon. A damaged Achilles would have thrown us back a few months. Maggie, on the other hand, decided she should see a dentist having not been to one for 5 years. As a result, she has a bit of dental work to knock out before we leave. The very day before learning about Maggie's dental work, Todd broke a tooth requiring a crown be put in before we leave... Holy cow.
On the good side, Todd resigned from his company, InfoNow Corporation, giving notice that his last day would be November 30th. His boss, Mark Geene, was disappointed, but very supportive and complimentary. The people at InfoNow have been great and hopefully there is an opportunity for Todd to return to work there when we get back.
Overall, we are still on track. We have been busy finishing up projects around the house including renting it, putting in a new toilet, figuring out what will go in storage, expanding a patio that was too small, and plenty of other items like yard work and basic cleaning.
We have also been making our final purchases of gear and items we will be taking with us including cameras, tent, clothing, bike equipment for New Zealand, etc. We are also putting together a couple care packages to have sent to us at various times we are traveling. We have heard that acquiring basics like toothpaste, deodorant, etc. are sometimes difficult to find. In addition, replacing clothing in SE Asia might be tough as Maggie is 6'1" and Todd is 6'3". We are going to stick out a bit in some of the places we plan to visit.
