Off to Sydney, Australia...

We've been a bit swamped with packing, moving our stuff to storage, getting Christmas gifts, visiting family and friends, and the basic logistics of taking off for a year. I know - blah ... blah, blah ... blah, blah. Anyway, we are finally on the road ... well in a plane anyway ... to Sydney.
While there are some loose ends, most of them have been nailed down by our good friends. It's funny, we see so much media on how bad people are. We don't see the things that are positive. For example, we have not sold the truck yet and one of our friends, volunteered to help us out. Others are helping us by taking care of valuables (bikes and antiques). Another is acting as an emergency contact for the people renting our house. One of our neighbors is taking care of the rent checks. All these things have made it possible for us to actually enjoy ourselves.
Several poeple asked us how excited we are and we have been excited for certain. However, it did not hit us really until Maggie's parents left the airport. When Maggie and I parted to get on the plane, we looked at each other in disbelief. We are actaully leaving for a year... it became real at that point.
We had a bit of a layover in San Francisco (8 hours). So we called a couple friends (Troy and Stacey) that work downtown, grabbed a train into the city and had dinner with them. It turned into a nice layover actually.
